Top 5 Perth Car Shows and Events (2017)

There’s more than great weather and decent coffee on offer in the state of WA; there are lots of top car shows and events too! So if you’re a motoring enthusiast, then you should definitely put Perth on your radar.

 

Whether you’re a local or just visiting, one of these five car-centric shows is sure to pique your interest.

1. Shannon’s Classic Car Show

Shannon’s Classic Car Show is the largest classic car show in WA and attracts around 20,000 spectators each year. It brings together over 100 Perth motoring clubs for one day of motoring extravaganza.

Showcasing approximately 800 vintage, veteran and classic cars, trucks and motorcycles, it’s a fun day out for adults and children alike.

Cost: Adults (16+) $10, Children under 16 free.
Location: Ascot Racecourse in Belmont.

2. Motorvation

Last year saw the 30th anniversary of Motorvation, hailed as Perth’s greatest car show event. Held over a long summer weekend, it attracts more than 500 competitors and 20,000 spectators who congregate to view the best street machines and hot rods from WA and beyond. These contestants compete in driving events on the drag strip, aka Traders’ Alley.

A highlight event at Motorvation is the KFC Burnout Competition Snakepit with cars specially designed to burn rubber. Other events include Audio Precision Sound Off, Miss Motorvation, Mega Skid Max and live entertainment.

Cost: Adults $35 to $45, depending on the day you go.
Location: Perth Motorplex at Kwinana Beach.
Date: Australia Day long weekend.

3. WA Hot Rod & Street Machine Spectacular

The WA Hot Rod & Street Machine Spectacular is a two-day indoor event held in a series of pavilions. Hundreds of hot rods, classic and muscle cars, and motorcycles can be viewed by enthusiasts.

This niche event is a custom car and motorcycle show that harks back to the 70s when everything was a bit OTT.

Cost: Adults (16+) $25, 13-15 yrs $15, 12 & under free.
Location: Robinson, Silver Jubilee and Jim Webster Pavilions.
Date: Mid June 2017.

4. Day of the Volkswagen

If you’ve got a V-Dub that you want to show off, then check out Perth’s Day of the Volkswagen (DOVW). Each state has a day dedicated to celebrating Volkswagens in all their glory. Other vehicles that are from the VW family such as Audi, Skoda, Karmann Ghia and more, are also included.

Sponsored by Volkswagen Australia and Shannon’s Insurance, this event has been running for over 10 years and usually attracts around 150 vehicles in all kinds of conditions. As the sponsors say, “it’s not about show and fully restored quality, we want you to bring your ride along no matter what the condition.”

There are kids activities on the day, and refreshments and club merchandise are on sale in the club tent.

Cost: Free, vehicle entry $10.

5. West Coast Lowdown

The West Coast Lowdown is a relatively new indoor car event in Perth that’s been held twice, with 2017 being the third edition. It’s a mash-up of car merchants, custom car and bike builders, skaters, tattooists and artists brought together under one pavilion to inspire individual creativity.

The space has individual feature zones, including a Tattoo Alley, a 6ft half pipe for skaters and a Bike Build-Off competition, plus scheduled events such as the Kustom Kavalcade and Lowrider Hop King Showcase.

Cost: Adults $25.
Location: 21 Mounts Bay Road, Perth.
Date: 14 & 15 October 2017.
